An Advanced Analysis of your DLSR Camera

This course is the sequel to Using Your DSLR Camera.  In this course we discuss in detail the mechanics of lenses and camera bodies, including dissecting a lens and looking in detail at the structure and functions of sensors.  We also discuss the hard science behind exposures and metering, and color temperature science.  In doing so, you come to a greater understanding of a variety of topics, and especially the limits of what your camera and lenses are capable of, and what you can do about that to take your photography to the next level.  A word of warning: This class is less practical than other CPLC courses, turning into the theory behind the mechanics of a DSLR camera in considerable detail.  See below for the description of topics to see why this is so.

Topics on lenses include: Lens construction, how auto-focus works, diffraction, chromatic aberration, prime vs. zoom lenses, wide angle vs. telephoto lenses, and how to purchase new lenses.

Topics on camera bodies include: Full-frame vs. cropped sensors, ISO in film and digital cameras, digital noise, shutter speed, aperture, the hyperfocal distance, depth of field, and Bayer mosaics.

Topics on exposure and color include: Middle gray as 13% vs. 18%, color histograms, luminance histograms, luminance, luminance, exposure values, reflected-light vs. incident-light metering, dynamic range, how auto-exposure works, color science, printer and monitor calibration, color mixing, and white balance.

When you have finished this course, you will be knowledgeable in the inner mechanics of lenses and camera bodies, the mechanics of how ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and focus work, the science behind exposure and metering, and the science behind color.
